Bay Coast Railroad Operations

Operations on BCRR are designed to provide the best possible service for all shippers and receivers.  Daily mainline schedules are coordinated with Norfolk Southern to provide efficient interchange service at Pocomoke City, MD for traffic originating or terminating in the northeast and Canada.

At Norfolk, BCRR's Little Creek Yard classifies traffic for daily direct connections with Norfolk Southern at their Portlock Yard and with the Norfolk Portsmouth Belt line for connections with CSXT.  Also handled in this yard is the expediting of north-south bridge traffic and local traffic originating or terminating in the Norfolk switching district.

Daily car float operations are scheduled to avoid delays to cars on either end of the float route and to conform to north-south freight train schedules established by BCRR and its connections.  Each round trip between Cape Charles and Little Creek takes approximately 12 hours.

A number of shippers and receivers on the Delmarva Peninsula, the Northeast, and Norfolk provide a good mix of traffic.  Some of the commodities handled are: coal, stone, grain, propane gas, concrete, chemicals, clay, brick, fertilizer, paper, and food stuffs.  The Bay Coast Railroad and its employees take pride in providing customer-oriented quality transportation service.
